Grant and loan funding agreed for sanitation improvements in Kiribati

A sian Development Bank (ADB) president Haruhiko Kuroda and Kiribati finance minister Tom Murdoch have signed grant and loan agreements worth a total $21.5 million for the South Tarawa sanitation improvement sector project. South Tarawa is the capital of the Republic of Kiribati on Tarawa Atoll in the Gilbert Islands in the Pacific Ocean.rnADB is providing a loan of $7.6 million from the Asian Development Fund (ADF) while the government of Australia is providing $14 million in grant co-financing for the project. Mr Kuroda said: 'ADB's assistance will help Kiribati efforts to meet Millennium Development Goal targets in improving access to sanitation, which will lead to better health outcomes. The project will support rnthe country's efforts to improve the quality and coverage of sanitation services for South Tarawa's urban residents.'
