Teams in the National Hockey League expect to divert more than 100 tons of potential food waste from landfills this season. The league says all of its teams have worked with a program called "Rock and Wrap It Up!" to pack up all prepared but untouched concession food on game nights for redistribution to local shelters. Four teams - the Buffalo Sabres, New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders and New York Rangers - all have been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Region 2 for their work with the food diversion program. EPA's Region 5 in the Midwest also recently recognized the Chicago Blackhawks, the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Detroit Red Wings and the Minnesota Wild.
