Recent Corrosion Problems in SWRO Desalination Plants

An SWRO plant can be split into two halves, the low pressure (up to 10 bar) and the high pressure (65 to 100 bar) sections (Figure 1). In the first, seawater is taken in and is subjected to finer and finer filtration processes, to remove solids and organic material. The seawater may be chlorinated to prevent fouling. After this, chemicals are added to prevent scaling and remove any chlorine, plus a nonchlorine biocide may be injected, just prior to the high pressure pumps.
