There are specific reasons why even the best scientific evidence often will not convince a community that a new waste facility is needed, according to a new study conducted by Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Penn., and the University of Maine, Orono, Maine.rnTo study the relative merits of rationality vs. emotion, university professors looked at one community's resistance to the proposed siting of a hazardous waste facility.
