Analysis 3 The Market for Gas Turbine Marine Engines

Forecast International considers the following to be the major trends that will impact the market for marine gas turbines in the decade 2019-2028: Three Companies Will Monopolize the Supply of Marine Gas Turbines. Between them, General Electric (including IHI), Rolls-Royce and Zorya-Mashproekt account for 98.81 percent of the marine gas turbines to be produced and 98.93 percent of the value of gas turbine production during the forecast period. The worldwide focus on marine gas turbines has centered on General Electric Co (USA) and Rolls-Royce, but Zorya-Mashproekt continues to offer marine gas turbines in the output range of 4,500-36,300 hp for Russian, Ukrainian, Indian, and Vietnamese vessels. Like so many Soviet-originated designs, these engines are simple, robust and easily maintained but lack the cutting-edge technology exploited by their rivals. This latter factor may not be a disadvantage, however.
