摘要

The USS Missouri holds a unique place in the history of the US Navy, so fittingly she is berthed in a special place in the history of the United States, preserved as a museum in Pearl Harbor, close to the Arizona Memorial. Missouri's exceptional distinction is that the Japanese surrender was signed on board her in Tokyo Bay on 2 September 1945, thus ending VVW2. The ship has been nicknamed the 'Mighty Mo'. Missouri is one of the Iowa-class fast battleships. Six of the class were planned, but only four were completed: Iowa, the lead ship, Missouri, New Jersey, and Wisconsin. All four are still in existence. They are fine looking ships with rakish long lines and high, flared bows. The final two of the class, Kentucky and Illinois, were never completed and were eventually scrapped.
