These are the sixth and seventh books in a series that has prompted very favorable reviews in this journal. These volumes follow the same format, well and faithfully reproducing superb colored scale official drawings of warships and complementing these drawings with descriptions of important features shown. The novelty in this series is the combination of a few full-length drawings (at reduced size) with a long series of much-larger-size segments reproduced in large, legible form together with explanatory captioning. While full-size copies of all these plans may be purchased from the National Maritime Museum (and their identifying catalog numbers are provided), their cost would be very large indeed, and their size too bulky to be of easy use. Thus, these books offer tremendous economy and efficiency for researchers, though perhaps having some limitation in application to scaling for model-making purposes. The volume on the Black Swan has an advantage over the previous ones in treating a much smaller ship than the others, affording the opportunity to present plans in much larger relative size than would be possible for a ship twice as long or longer.
