UK kerbside recycling: the key to successful services

According to a new report published by Materials Recycling Week, a clear two-thirds (66 per cent) of local authorities surveyed agree that every household in the UK should be able to recycle cans, tins, paper, cardboard, glass, plastic bottles and organic waste through their council's kerbside collection services. The State of the Nation 2008 survey showed that householders can expect more recyclable materials to be collected from the kerbside in future. Eight out of 10 of the local authorities surveyed said that they already collect plastic bottles and just under half of those (48 per cent) said they also plan to expand the range of plastics they collect.
