Towards crafting a law on the elderly in Vietnam

In 2006, after five years of implementing "the Ordinance on the Elderly," the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Association for the Elderly (VAE) has submitted a request to the Standing Committee of the National Assembly (NA) to construct a "law on the elderly". The proposal was accepted by the NA Standing Committee and was presented to the National Assembly for consideration and inclusion in the program "compiling laws and ordinances" in 2007. In its 10th session (from 17 October to 29 November 2006), the 11th National Assembly approved Resolution No. 72 regarding this program, and the VAE was assigned to compile "the law on the elderly." In its 4th session (from October to November 2008), the 12th National Assembly decided that the law on the elderly would be brought forward in the 5th session and ratified in the 6th session.
