On May 24, Rosatom subsidiary TVEL Fuel Company reportedit has completed development of a new fuel modificationfor the two-unit Loviisa nuclear power plant in Finland.TVEL said that by increasing the mass of uranium in one fuelelement, the total level of fuel enrichment can be reducedwithout reducing thermal energy generation in the reactor. Inturn, said TVEL, a lower level of uranium enrichment will reducethe cost of the fuel production chain, as well as optimizethe handling of irradiated fuel.
