Uranium 2018: Resources, Production, and Demand

On December 13, 2018, the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency(NEA) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)released Uranium 2018: Resources, Production, and Demand,which is published biennially and more popularly known asthe “Red Book.” This 27th edition of the Red Book provides acomprehensive assessment of current uranium supply and demandprojections to the year 2035. The publication containsextensive data on uranium resources, exploration, production,and uranium inventories. Additionally, there are historicalsummaries of exploration and production, as well as projectionsfor future mine production. The report also assesses thepotential impact of secondary supply sources on the market.The bulk of the Red Book consists of individual country reports,which includes detailed information on uranium explorationand production developments, environmental activities,regulatory requirements, and relevant national uranium policies.Preparation of the publication stems from data obtainedthrough questionnaires sent by the NEA to OECD membercountries and by the IAEA to other countries. In this 27th edition,36 countries officially responded and five national reportswere prepared by the NEA and IAEA. This compares to37 countries and 12 national reports in the 26th edition.
