Sustainable Brownfield Regeneration: Liveable Places from Problem Spaces

In the UK, the importance of sustainable brownfield regeneration has recently been heightened by factors such as population growth in south-east England, the development of the London Olympics site and the wider sustainable communities agenda. Hence government continues to seek by various means to bring such land into productive and sustainable use. However, this is a complex and multifaceted issue because much existing brownfield land not only presents environmental challenges, but also raises issues of environmental justice and social equity, since it often occurs in close proximity to disadvantaged communities.
