Global cities and urban theory

For nearly a decade, a running debate between 'critical' and 'assemblage' approaches to urban theory has in many ways reinvigorated older formulations of key arguments that circumscribe the field of urban geography. Global Cities and Urban Theory reflects a recent attempt to integrate and extend 'Global Cities' discourse with insights from Actor-Network Theory (ANT) associated with Bruno Latour. McNeill, a Scottish geographer based at the University of Western Sydney's department of Urban and Cultural Geography, has long trained his focus on the role of globalization in the production of the built environment and the shaping national territories. This has included The Global Architect: Firms, Frame, and Urban Form and New Europe: Imagined Spaces. This previous work is woven throughout the review of theoretical literature that make up much of this latest book.
