Green Cities of Europe: Global Lessons on Green Urbanism

This book gives a North American view of how green the urbanism is on the other side of the pond. Tim Beatley, Professor of Sustainable Communities at the University of Virginia, and editor of Green Urbanism and Biophitic Cities, explores several 'green' cities of Europe including likely candidates such as Freiburg, Helsinki and Copenhagen and less likely ones such as London, Paris and Venice. The book assesses how these places provide for sustainable living and at a time, when Europe appears to be imploding under the strain of monetary union and recession, it is an almost uncommonly positive view of the continent.
