ExxonMobil increases Guyana block estimate

US supermajor ExxonMobil has raised one more time the resource estimate at the prolific Stabroek block offshore Guyana, with gross discovered recoverable volumes now pegged at about 10 billion barrels of oil equivalent. The new figure is up from a previous estimate by ExxonMobil and its partners US independent Hess and China's CNOOC International of about 9 billion boe following a new discovery, the 2lst in the block, with the Cataback-1 exploration well. The Cataback-l probe discovered 74 metres of net pay in high-quality hydrocarbon-bearing sandstone reservoirs. The well was drilled about 6 kilometres east of the Turbot-1 find in 1807 metres of water with the Noble Corporation drillship Noble Tom Madden. "The discovery adds to the resource in the Turbot-Tripletail area, enhancing the development project potential," said ExxonMobil senior vice president of exploration and new ventures Mike Cousins.
