Chevron focuses on Gulf of Mexico and Permian

CHEVRON plans to keep growing its operations in the US Gulf of Mexico and the Permian basin.Speaking during a second-quarter earnings call, executive vice president Jay Johnson said the company continues to look for "that next high-return, low-carbon barrel", and the Gulf of Mexico represents "a good hunting ground" for that.Johnson said Chevron has deep-water Gulf projects such as Anchor, Whale and Ballymore "in the queue" but it would take a disciplined approach to funding them. In the meantime, further exploration continues."With our focus on returns, we are looking for those opportunities where we can do exploration," he said."If we find something that ends up really big and justifies a green-field development, we can go the route of a Whale project, where we continue to focus on the minimum functional objectives, building facilities that are replicative in nature so that we are building on the learnings of the past."
