A European contractor has emerged as the front-runner for a prized contract at Al Sha-heen - Qatar's largest offshore oilfield.Two people familiar with the project told Upstream that France's Ponticelli is at the head of a short queue, aiming to win the engineering, procurement and construction contract from Qatar's North Oil Company (NOC) that involves water debottlenecking facilities."Ponticelli is the preferred contractor and is likely to be awarded the offshore contract within weeks," one person said.Italy's Rosetti Marino is believed to have been the only other bidder for the contract, but lost out to Ponticelli, according to project watchers.A second source said the French company could be supported by a Qatari yard or Malaysia's Sapura Energy, as a subcontractor.Upstream reported last month that Ponticelli and Rosetti Marino were in a two-horse race for the debottlenecking project, named DBN-PWM.
