Equinor gets green light for Troll 3 gas expansion scheme

EQUINOR has been given the go-ahead to start up facilities and modifications at its Troll phase three project off Norway, a core expansion scheme at a field of huge significance to European gas supplies. Start-up of the third phase has been delayed from spring this year due to coronavirus-related restrictions, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) regulator said. "Troll is a giant on the Norwegian (continental) shelf. The field supplies as much as 7% of Europe's daily demand for gas, and Troll 3 will help maintain a high level of production for a long time to come," said the NPD's leader of licence management Wenche Tjelta Johansen. The Troll 3 scheme has seen investment of just over Nkr8 billion ($922.66 million) and is set to produce for at least 30 years.
