US LNG exports to surge

THE US has emerged as the world's second-largest exporter of liquefied natural gas by liquefaction capacity, on par with Qatar and just behind Australia, a representative from US-based Cheniere Energy told a recent conference in China. The US "is now the joint second-largest exporter of LNG by operational capacity", Jia Yin, chief representative of Cheniere Energy in China, told delegates attending the 15th China LNG conference held by Guangdong Oil & Gas Association in Yangzhou earlier this month. Cheniere now operates five fully operational liquefaction trains at the Sabine Pass facility on the Gulf of Mexico, each capable of producing 5 million tonnes per annum of LNG.
