MISC set to launch Mero-3 floater bid race

MALAYSIAN contractor MISC is set to soon launch a formal bid process for a major engineering, procurement and construction contract covering the third large floating production, storage and offloading vessel for the Mero pre-salt field in Brazil's Santos basin. Asian yard sources said that MISC is gearing up for the bidding process following a letter of intent it signed last week with Brazil's Petrobras for the charter of the Mero-3 FPSO, which will be called Marechal Duque de Caxias. MISC has offered a dayrate close to $700,000 for the floater, contracting sources have said, edging out Netherlands-based rival SBM Offshore. The upcoming bid follows a pre-bid survey launched by MISC in early June to test market interest and get early pricing assessments from Asian yards.
