TOTAL has agreed to contract a Valaris drillship to carry out a wildcatting campaign in the ultra-deep waters of Brazil's prolific Campos basin, in the fringe of the pre-salt polygon. According to permitting documents obtained exclusively by Upstream, Total has applied to register the Valaris DS-15 with federal environmental regulator Ibama to spud two wells in Block C-M-541. Upstream has previously reported that Valaris and Seadrill were competing for the Total job, with Valaris having the upper hand to land the contract, as it has worked for the French operator in Brazil in the past, conducting infill drilling in the Lapa pre-salt field.
