AUSTRALIAN operator Beach Energy has been given approval to carry out its planned domestic development drilling campaign in the Otway basin, off the coast of Victoria. Australia's National Offshore Petroleum Safety & Environmental Management Authority (Nopsema) has approved Beach's environment plan for up to six development wells, as well as the abandonment of three existing subsea wells, at the Geographe and Thylacine fields. There is no firm date for the campaign, with Beach stating in the environment plan that the programme would start some time between 1 January 2021 and 31 October 2022 and take up to 22 months to complete. Drilling, completion and well testing is anticipated to take between 64 and 90 days per well, with the abandonment of the existing three subsea wells expected to take approximately 30 days per well.
