SHELL expects the major redevelopment of its Penguins field in the UK northern North Sea to start up next year after subsea work was rephased to reduce costs. Chief executive Ben van Beurden told reporters late last week that subsea work on the scheme has been spread across last year and this year to reduce capital spending. "We expect first oil probably in 2022," Van Beurden said on a call to discuss the company's fourth-quarter results. Shell took a final investment decision on the project in 2018 but the exact timeline to project start-up, especially in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, has been unclear.
