ENI is in talks with North Sea-focused operator Alpha Petroleum Resources over a potential deal that could lay the groundwork for the Italian major to form a new UK joint venture, according to people familiar with outlines of the matter. The people said Lambert Energy Advisory has been advising Eni. The talks with Alpha come as the Italian major explores the possibility of forming another upstream joint venture in the same vein as the combination it this month announced with BP in Angola, and similar to Vaar Energi, the oil and gas producer created in Norway in 2018 with private equity firm HitecVision, the people said.
