DRONE MAKES SPECIAL DELIVERY FOR EQUINOR

Equinor has delivered a spare part to a North Sea platform using a drone in what the Norwegian operator says is an industry first. The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) carried a 3D-printed part for a lifeboat system from the company's Mongstad base to its Troll A platform about 80 kilometres offshore, completing an operation that Equinor described as "a test, the world's first of its kind, where an actual freight operation was conducted over a lengthy distance to an operating offshore installation". The flight took about an hour, with the drone - a Schiebel-manufactured Camcopter s-100 model operated by Sandnes-based Nordic Unmanned - reaching an altitude of around 5000 feet (1524 metres), Equinor said.
