CHINA has launched a tender process for the construction of an ultra-deepwater drillship that is set to explore for gas hydrates in what would be the deepest waters for such an operation ever to be attempted off the country. Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey (GMGS), a marine survey unit of the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR), issued the tender late last week for the provision of the drillship following approval from the top decision-making body the National Development & Reform Commission.
