Equinor eyes UK hydrogen

NORWEGIAN state-controlled oil and gas company Equinor has taken the lead role in a new hydrogen project in the UK that could be sanctioned as early as 2023. The Hydrogen to Humber Saltend project - or H2H Salt-end - could be in production by 2026. Equinor said it will be one of the world's first "at-scale facilities" to produce hydrogen from natural gas in combination with carbon capture and storage (CCS). The project will be located near the city of Hull at Saltend Chemicals Park, which is owned and operated by PX Group. It will be part of the Zero Carbon Humber alliance's application for public funding from the UK government's Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, which launched in June. Equinor said it plans to mature the project towards a final investment decision but cautioned this will be "subject to supportive UK policy".
