Shell postpones Brazil's Gato do Mato floater race

ANGLO-DUTCH supermajor Shell has pushed back to early 2021 the bid deadline in the floater charter tender for its Gato do Mato pre-salt development off Brazil. Industry sources told Upstream that Shell is assessing market conditions due to the oil price collapse and the Covid-19 pandemic and for that reason opted to postpone the tender for the floating production, storage and offloading vessel to the first quarter of 2021. The previous deadline was the third quarter of 2020. "We are hearing new delays are possibly on the cards. I would not be surprised if Shell postpones the tender again, this time to the second quarter of 2021," one well-informed source told Upstream. During an Upstream Brazil inaugural digital conference last week, Shell Brazil production director for pre-salt assets Cris-tiano Pinto da Costa said the Gato do Mato FPSO tender is coming "in the beginning of 2021". "We had to adjust the tender along the way, and we expect bids to be submitted in early 2021, when we are probably going to put everything together and have a final investment decision, depending on the overall conditions of oil price and cash availability in the group," said Pinto da Costa.
