Petrobras delays date for Itapu floater charter bids

PETROBRAS has postponed the date for receiving bids in a tender for a chartered floating production, storage and offloading vessel to serve the Itapu field in Brazil's Santos basin. Bids will now be presented on 20 April, about four months later than originally planned, according to industry sources involved in the tendering process. Before the latest delay, bids would have been presented on 3 February. Itapu is located on the "rights transfer" area of the pre-salt, and the tender is being carried out by Petrobras alone, without international partners. The Itapu tender offers a 21-year charter but includes a minimum local content requirement of 25%. The tender was also issued after the introduction of stringent new laws on public sector tendering and, with other floater jobs already out in the Brazilian market, this contest has not attracted as much interest as some others. Among the leaders in the Brazilian FPSO market, Modec has been picking and choosing its opportunities, having several Petrobras floaters on its books already.
