Oil Search to spud Alaska probes within weeks'

AUSTRALIAN independent Oil Search is weeks away from spudding two major exploration wells onshore Alaska targeting combined potential oil resources of between 400 million and 900 million barrels. The Mitquq-1 probe in the Pikka East block will target a prospect with a resource potential of between 200 million and 500 million barrels. To the south, in the Horsehoe block, Stirrup-1 will be drilled on a structure that could house between 200 million and 400 million barrels. Both wells are due to spud at the end of January, with completion expected in mid-April. Mitquq-l will be drilled to a true vertical depth up to 7000 feet by the Nabors 7-ES rig, while Doyon's Artie Fox rig will drill Stirrup-1 to a maximum depth of 6000 feet. Alaska's Department of Natural Resources approved the drilling plans last week.
