PEMEX'S contracting strategy for a rig focused on midwater drilling purposes has remained uncertain, write Kathrine Schmidt and Gareht Chetwynd. Multiple sources told Upstream that the ODN Delba Ⅲ unit was currently making its way to Mexico for a client focused on midwater drilling after a Dutch offshore services company made a deal for it in Brazil. Documents obtained by Upstream show that in October Pemex made a direct award to Dutch offshore services company OOS and Grinnav to fulfill a requirement for a rig to operate in a minimum of 328 feet of water. The total value of the deal was $52 million, and would run from the formalisation of the contract until 31 December 2020.
