STRONG production from the US core shale patch of the Permian basin helped Occidental Petroleum double average production output in the fourth quarter of 2019 even as the company took more than $1 billion in writedowns in the same period. The US independent reported a total average daily production of 1.4 million barrels of oil equivalent, with 476,000 boepd coming from the Permian basin, for the three months to the end of December.
