CHINA is set to accelerate the pace of coalbed methane (CBM) exploration in the country's largest coal producing province, Shanxi, as it aims for a significant increase in production. The country's authorities are aiming to raise CBM production by 20% to 8.5 billion cubic metres this year. State-owned giant China National Petroleum Corporation is the lead player in CBM exploration and development in Shanxi, with plans to drill 41 horizontal wells this year.
