CHINA is praising its own success of late in overseas oil and gas production, boasting that it produced 210 million tonnes (1.54 billion barrels) of oil equivalent last year — up by 3.6% from 2018 — including 167 million tonnes of equity oil. Of the total equity oil, output by China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) grew 3.2% to 104 million tonnes, Sinopec's was up 1.5% to 43 million tonnes and the 44 million tonnes produced by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) represented an increase of 6%.
