BHP has invited as many as seven bidders to participate in a pre-front end engineering and design contest for a semi-submersible floating production unit for the Trion discovery off Mexico that could become the country's first deep-water oil and gas development if sanctioned. The Australian operator invited companies including Fluor, McDermott, Modec, TechnipFMC, Samsung Heavy Industries, SBM Offshore and Sembcorp to participate, multiple sources confirmed to Upstream. BHP's strategy is understood to centre on a competitive process culminating in the award of a full engineering, procurement, construction and installation contract.
