DEVELOPMENT of Uganda's oilfields on the shores of Lake Albert, including the CNOOC International-operated Kingfisher field, Total's Tilenga field and the 1444-kilometre export pipeline planned to run through Tanzania, has huge strategic importance. Yet planning came to a halt on 29 August with expiry of the 2017 sales and purchase agreement between Tullow Oil and Total, allowing the French major to acquire 21.57% of Tullow's one-third stake in the Albertine permit, sending Shockwaves through the industry.
