CHINA'S state-run CNOOC Ltd has spudded an exploration well between the Weizhou 6/12 North and South fields on Block 22/12 in the South China Sea. The WZ 6/12 Ml exploration well, in China's Beibu Gulf, is targeting the T40 to T42 stacked reservoirs and will evaluate the structure, sand and oil column thickness in the undeveloped WZ 6/12 Mid prospect. The prospect lies on the foot-wall side of a major east-west trending normal fault that separates it from the WZ 6/12 South field. If the well is successful, CNOOC intends to integrate its development with the WZ 6/12 North and South fields.
