ITALY'S Eni plans to invest about $4.7 billion on its upstream assets in the Middle East through to 2022, focused on projects in Abu Dhabi, writes Iain Esau. Part of these funds will also go on exploration efforts in Bahrain, Sharjah, Oman and Ras al Khaimah, in addition to exploring off Lebanon and maintaining output at Zubair in Iraq. Eni currently has 5% and 10% stakes, respectively, in the Lower Zakum and Umm Shaif-Nasr fields in Abu Dhabi, with its equity production running at about 50,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
