Hibernia shut in after spill

PRODUCTION remains shut in at the Hibernia platform off eastern Canada as crews continue cleaning up an oil spill that occurred while restarting output at the facility late last week. Operator Hibernia Management & Development Company (HMDC) said on 20 August that satellite imagery showed no observable sheen, while overhead flights and vessel surveillance showed a decreased sheen concentration at the start of the week. HMDC attributed the smaller sheen to natural weathering and mechanical collection and dispersion efforts.
