Inpex lines up deal for rig to drill for three years

JAPANESE independent Inpex is putting offshore drilling contrac tors through their paces to meet its requirement of an ultra-deep-water rig on a three-year firm basis in Australia. The operator is understood to have been in the market for the big rig for a couple of months. The offering of a three-year firm deal makes it an extremely valua ble contract for drillers, and sources said it also carries options for up to two additional years.
