THE upstream oil and gas industry is often accused of being behind the digitalisation curve compared to other major industries such as aerospace and auto manufacturing. That is true up to a point. Despite years of talk about more standardisation of equipment and processes, and collaboration between operators and vendors, the conservative nature of many E&P players has kept some of the most disruptive elements of the digital transformation at bay for now.
