Shell to chase subsalt targets off Mauritania

ANGLO-DUTCH supermajor Shell is chasing multiple plays in acreage it picked up off Mauritania in the middle of last year. Shell was handed production sharing contracts for both C-10 and C-19 in July, taking a 90% stake in each, with state company SMHPM on 10%. Shell's acting vice president of exploration for Africa and Middle East, Menno de Ruig, said at the Africa E&P Summit last week that the company's experience in the eastern Gulf of Mexico, together with developments in seismic and drilling technology, will allow it to explore under-hanging salt domes on C-10.
