Gas to play major role in UK future

AMASSIVE hole was driven through what existed of UK energy policy last week when Japan's Hitachi put on hold plans to build the $28-billion Wylfa Newydd nuclear power project in Anglesey, Wales. High up-front costs have deterred construction of new nuclear facilities, despite the UK banking on them to help replace ageing nuclear and coal-fired stations that are set to be decommissioned in the 2020s.
