FRANCE'S CGG is aiming to carry out a regional 2D survey in the Indian Ocean to help establish the presence of new hydrocarbon-prone micro-continents off East Africa, writes Iain Esau. Studies carried out by the French contractor suggest such micro-continents - fragments of continents that have broken off main land masses - could host potential oil and gas resources. Gregor Duval, CGG's senior technical manager for Europe, Africa and the Middle East, highlighted several potential micro-continents in addition to the proven Seychelles Bank.
