SHELL has started the process of identifying the companies that will provide the large production facilities for the Crux gas development off Western Australia. The Anglo-Dutch supermajor hosted a project briefing in Perth late last week for interested services companies that was very well attended by local and overseas contractors, sources said. Just before the briefing, Shell launched a pre-qualification exercise related to three packages - the topsides for the Crux production platform, the jacket and piles for the platform, and the subsea and pipeline requirements. Shell would like contractors to express their interest in providing engineering, procurement, construction and installation services for each package.
