MEXICAN state oil company Pemex has won approval for an exploration plan envisaging investment of between $104 million and $204 million over the next two years to further investigate resources with unconventional potential in the Tampico-Misantla basin in the country's Veracruz state. Earlier this month, the company received approval from Mexico's National Hydrocarbons Commission (CNH) for at least four wells and as many as eight on its Pitepec, Soledad, Amatitlan and Mihuapan assignments, with one base case and one optional well planned for each tract. The work programme does not include production tests or hydraulic fracturing, though the door was left open to operations at some point being a possibility if the discovery is seen close enough to infrastructure, CNH commissioners and staff said during the meeting in which the work was approved.
