BP brainstorms potential for semisub-lite

BP HAS launched a process to engage with a wide range of contractors to brainstorm options for a lightweight semi-submersible production facility with an eye to application in the deep-water US Gulf of Mexico, writes Kathrine Schmidt. The potential facility is not believed to be tied to any specific project, but multiple sources said the operator is seeking options for a mid-sized standardised unit with a lightweight profile similar to the Opti-Ex design used by Llog Exploration or the Vito design developed by Shell.
