In 1999, Pakistan unveiled a low-cost unmanned air vehicle, known as the Mk 2, for export. The system is said to be aimed at countries that cannot afford the more expensive UAVs now on the market. Pakistan already has a version of this air vehicle, the Mk 1, in service for battlefield surveillance. The Pakistani Army may also be interested in a longer range UAV, in the area of 600 kilometers, for surveillance missions and to perform target designation.
