U.S. Marine Corps UAVs: Fielding a New Family of Drones

The U.S. Marine Corps' plans to field a family of new Tier Ⅰ, Ⅱ and Ⅲ unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) gained traction on Oct. 18, when its Systems Command at Marine Corps Base Quantico, VA, selected a small defense engineering firm in Dayton, Ohio, to supply an off-the-shelf system to be a concept demonstrator for the Tier Ⅱ infantry division/regiment-level UAV. MTC Technologies Inc. successfully bid the T-16 UAV built by Arcturus of Rohnert Park, CA, edging out AAI's Aerosonde, BAE Systems' Skylynx and Boeing's ScanEagle. The companies had submitted their proposals last May.
