For its February meeting, the Silicon Valley Chapter of AUVSI invited FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) students and advisers to present their organization and tell us how we can help them succeed in their exciting endeavor.rnSix junior high and high school students, and three of their advisers, made an outstanding and energetic presentation on school robotic competition. It was amazing to see the enthusiasm each student had for their creations. The younger group brought a full-floor setup and a robot to demonstrate their skills, and the high school students showed videos about their competition.rnThere are a number of national and international robotic competition programs (including the five sponsored by AUVSI) but the largest is the FIRST organization.rnFIRST is divided into three categories, and organizes three main events:rnJunior First Lego and First Lego League (FLL), using the Lego Mindstorm robot kits, for 9-14 year oldsrnThe First Tech Challenge (FTC) for JHS students.
